A group of ethnic minority youths in Hong Kong have set out to tackle one of the biggest challenges they face — language.
They’ve launched a podcast called “Podcasters Open Mic!”, where they practice Cantonese and share their own stories, hoping to break down social stereotypes and foster understanding.
The hosts identify themselves as “Third Culture Kids” — individuals who grew up moving between different cultural environments and developed unique identities and perspectives. Because of this background, they tend to be more adaptable and open-minded toward diverse cultures, yet they also often experience cultural conflicts and identity confusion.
In this episode, hosts Omi, Sing Ka Wang, and Wimmy join Husnain, Kayna, and Stephanie — the creators of “Podcasters Open Mic!” — to explore Hong Kong through their eyes and talk about the characteristics and challenges of being Third Culture Kids.
