From Our Own Microphone to Yours: Helping Others Produce CIBS Programmes

After completing our own CIBS programme, we felt truly honoured to be able to support other community producers on their broadcasting journey. Helping others create a CIBS programme is not simply about sharing technical skills, it is about passing on the confidence, care, and creativity that community radio makes possible.
Our Role as Production Supporters
We supported fellow producers by helping them:
Clarify the programme theme, audience, and key message.
Turn broad ideas into clear episode outlines.
Prepare interview questions and guest briefings.
Set up recording equipment and test audio quality.
Develop a comfortable interviewing style.
Organise audio files, scripts, and editing workflows.
Review drafts for clarity, pacing, and accessibility.
Stay on track with production schedules and submission requirements.
Finishing our own CIBS programme gave us a deeper understanding of what first-time producers need. We remembered the nerves before the first recording, the questions about equipment, and the satisfaction of hearing a completed episode.
That experience helped us offer reassurance as well as advice. We could say, “Yes, it feels overwhelming at first—but you can do this,” because we had been through the same journey ourselves.
It has been a privilege to witness other producers grow in confidence as they prepare their episodes. Seeing someone move from “I am not sure I can speak on radio” to proudly sharing their community’s stories is one of the most rewarding parts of this work.
Behind every polished episode are late-night edits, careful listening, laughter between takes, and a team learning together. We hope these photos inspire more community members to consider producing their own CIBS programme.
A Heartfelt Thank You
Thank you to every producer, guest, volunteer, and community partner who trusted us to be part of their CIBS journey. Helping others produce their programmes after completing our own has been an honour—and a reminder that storytelling becomes even more powerful when it is shared.
