Stephanie Villaeba Gurung was born in Hong Kong to a Nepali–Filipina family. Her father enrolled her in local Cantonese-medium schools from a young age, helping her grow up immersed in local culture.
Today, Stephanie teaches cultural and language programs across different schools, and she co-hosts the Cantonese podcast “Open Mic!” with friends from diverse ethnic backgrounds. Through their show, they hope to help more people understand and appreciate the experiences of ethnic minority communities in Hong Kong.
